Digital Booklet Printing FAQ's
A booklet is a small thin book produced either saddle-stitched (stapled booklet) or perfect bound. We offer our booklets as perfect bound as the booklets you receive are much higher quality and design to last.
We have various different paper and cover types for our booklets in many sizes from A5 to A4.
We offer different laminations (gloss or matt) and different paperstocks. We have gloss or matt coated paper ranging from 115gsm to 170gsm.
If you require a custom paper for your booklet, please get in touch, we may be able to order it in.
We are able to produce booklets in a variety of different sizes. The smallest size we can bind is A6 (148 mm x 105 mm). The largest size for our booklets is 297 mm x 210 mm (portrait) or 297 mm x 210 mm (landscape).
The most popular size for booklets is A5 (210 mm x 148 mm) or A4 portrait (297 mm x 210 mm). Custom sizes are fine for us to do but it may be best to stick to the traditional sizes, especially if you are using the booklet for promotional material.
A normal perfect bound booklet will need to have a spine width over 2mm. If your booklet has too fewer pages we will not be able to perfect bind it. The width of the spine will depend on the amount of pages you have. You can find this information out by using our Spine Width Calculator or by Getting a Quote.
Our booklets can be printed on many different papers. We have standard opaque papers in 80gsm or 100gsm, a nice recycled paper in 100gsm and two bookwove papers in cream and off-white at 80gsm. These two bookwove papers are a bulkier paper more suited for books and novesl.
We also regularly use coated papers in either gloss or matt from 115gsm up to 170gsm. These coated papers are best suited to booklets that will have a lot of colour printing as it will make the colours stnad out.
If you require a heavy weight coated paper in either matt or gloss, we advise to go no heavier than 170gsm, that way you can be sure that your booklet still opens up nicely.
If you are struggling to decide what paper will be best for your booklet please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org
Booklets are a lot thinner than traditional books and we advise no artwork for the spine of the booklet apart from a solid colour. The spine width for the booklet will only be a couple millimeters or more. Any artwork on this thin spine will not be readable.
Your booklet can have a variety of custom options. It is best to get in contact with us if you require something a little bit special.
